For the last few weeks, our family has been traveling in France and Swizterland.
Why leave London for a few weeks of glorious summer? Our plan was to escape the Olympic madness in London. I would have loved to actually go to a few Olympic events, but we didn’t have tickets. And because the house we will be renting for a few years was not available until the middle August, if we had stayed in London during the Olympics we would have had to spend a fortune on rent. The prices were about three times more than the already high prices in London. So it was a good time to go.
We spent about a week in Paris and then we’re in the middle of two weeks in Swizterland. It is a holiday of sorts, but the truth is both Mark and I need to keep working. He’s still putting in 40 hours a week at the corporate gig. And I’m under a (self imposed) deadline working on my book.
So most days I write from about 7-10 a.m. while Mark handles breakfast and dressing the kids. And then somewhere mid morning, we switch. Mark works until early evening. I take the kids out to do something in the the sun and then return home for the littles to nap. I try to squeeze in a little more work. We make dinner – which is quite an ordeal in the kitchen of the apartment we’re renting in Switzerland – and then get the kids to bed. And then Mark and I both put in a few more hours.
Here or there we are taking a day off to explore. These days that feel like a real vacation are well worth the long hours on other days.
I have a lot I want to write about our holiday. But at least this shor tpost explains why I haven’t been blogging…
